------------------------------------------

Some notes about the difficulty level:
When you get past the hourly level, difficulty levels assume [more or less] a standard 40-hour/week working period.  I considered removing the "3 days" entry, but I think it's useful because [a] many tasks will fall in this range; [b] there would be an awkward gap between 2 days and a week [5 days?], with questionableness in representing 3 and 4 days; and [c] intuitively, it seems that "a week" is more than just 5 days -- "week-long projects" in practice often include many hours past the mythical 40-hour standard finishing up the project, whereas a 5-day project should be just that.
For programming tasks, take into account all the time needed to prueba the change, add the in-source documentation, update the ChangeLogs, etc.  Don't, however, include potential time required prostrating yourself before the god of CVS, as this is very variable and you can batch up many changes, where the number of changes has little effect on the CVS time.  Also keep in mind that handling many ChangeLog entries at once is more efficient than one at a time, so include for CVS time what you might spend handling the entry for this change in the context of simultaneously handling many others.
When estimating the time taken, be very generous.  Always overshoot, rather than undershoot.  Even if you always complete the task in the time allotted, there's inevitably extra time getting it synched up, dealing with reported bugs, etc.  One way to do this might be to estimate the longest possible amount of time you think the task could possibly take, and multiply by 1.5.  Later on, if you pay attention to how much time it really took, and be honest with yourself, you can figure out a better value for this "fudge factor".
The amount of time to complete a task varies widely depending on who's doing the task.  When adding difficulty ratings to a list where different people may be doing the different tasks, it's very important that the difficulty level be calculated with respect to the person who will be doing the task.  Ideally, that person themself is computing the difficulty, or the person who's computing the difficulty knows them well enough to do it for them.  In many cases, however, this may not be possible, or the task doer may not be known.  In such a case, it may be useful to put your own estimated difficulty and/or estimated difficulties for people you know well, so that it might be possible to translate the given figures into a figure accurate for the person doing the task.  The important thing here is to tag each difficulty with a person's name, e.g. rather than just "3", something like "3=Ben 4=Hrvoje 6=Martin".

saludos!
